Portrait Practice

So, I painted this picture of myself. I haven't really painted anything for myself for a while, so I decided this break was a good time for me to do that. Plus, I've decided to do this at the end of every year to sort of track where my art is going. Enjoy!

Little Red

For character design, we got to do this really fun exercise: finish a character by using form, shape, and line. I'm not usually inclined to animal characters, so I thought I would challenge myself to finish one. Enjoy!

Breaking Bad

Man, I love Breaking Bad. I felt the need to do a little fan art, so here it is! So stoked to find out what happens this last season.

Don't do drugs, kids. Drugs are so bad.

Waker of the Winds

Hey guys, it's been awhile since I've posted here. But now that I just finished school (for now), I'll have more time to post here. 

I've been playing through the Legend of Zelda games, and I felt the need to do some fanart. The Windwaker is one of my favorites, so I figured I's start there. I just love Toon Link! I've done two versions: one in full color, and another for a zine some people and I are doing. 

Mark Twain

For one of my finals, we had to do either an illustration with Mark Twain or Kim Jong Un. I picked Mark Twain. We had Three hours in class to work on it, and this is what I came up with. Enjoy!

Wild

I've never drawn a tiger before, so I figured I'd give it a shot! I don't normally draw animals for some reason, so it was fun to figure out how to stylize one. Enjoy!

Smoke

This was done for one of my illustration classes. For this assignment, we had to pick a visual cliche from a list and incorporate it into an illustration. I chose cloud. My first thought is that clouds could look like brains (maybe?), so I did a bunch of thumbnails where a dude's brain was replaced with a cloud, kind of like an x-ray view. But then I thought that the clouds coming out his head would be more interesting, so I went with that, even though the cloud idea kind of turned more into smoke. Also, I keep looking at this and thinking 'Harry Potter'. Don't know if that's good or bad...

For this, I decided to do a basic painting in acrylic so I could get some cool textures. Then I added some details digitally.

Hansel and Gretel

Here's Hansel and Gretel! Figuring out the composition for this one was really tricky, but I think I got pretty close to what I was going for. I did a lot of research for the clothing/trees/house for this one, but I don't know how much it paid off, haha. I decided to have it take place in the late 1600's early 1700's in Germany, so I tried to research stuff from that time period.So there you have it!

Goldilocks

This semester, I'm working hard to make myself to finished illustrations that look finished and have backgrounds and all of that great stuff. So I've decided to illustrate fairytales/other stories where I can use my artistic style to recreate story moments in those stories. So here's my first fairytale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Here ya go!

Richard III

For my Narrative class, we had to design a 18x24 poster based on Richard III. Since I really love drawing people, I decided to do the scene where Richard is dreaming and all of the people he has killed have come to haunt him essentially.  The characters in the front are meant to be (from left to right) one of the princes, Henry VI, the other price, Lady Anne, Clarence, and....honestly I'm not sure about that last guy, haha. I was thinking Buckingham. the ones in the back are meant to represent the other five people he had murdered. This play is so confusing, I couldn't keep track of all the characters, so I had to write them down to make sure i remembered everything, haha.

I actually had a lot of fun with this one. It's quite a bit different from what I usually do, but it's nice to break away from what I usually do every once in a while.

Bad Bad World

So, for Digital Illustration, we had to make an illustration based off of a song. It didn't have to be a literal translation of the song, just kind of how it made us feel and all that jazz. For this one, I originally had a thumbnail completely different. My teacher basically told me it sucked, so I started over. After a while of trying to think of ideas, I finally got to this conclusion, and I'm actually really happy with how it turned out. There are still a few minor things I could work on, but I'm pretty content with it for now. 

Oh, and the illustration was based on the song 'Bad Bad World' but Guster. 

Book Cover

I cropped the top of this one because it isn't really a book cover, so there's no title to put in there. Below is the Book Cover version.

This one is meant to be a book cover, which was the assignment. That's why the top is empty. That's where the title would go if it had one, haha. This was my final assignment for my digital painting class. I've never drawn a wolf before, so that was interesting. I had a really fun time painting the girl. Her hair and face paint was really fun to paint. Her fur was pretty cool, too.  Enjoy!

This was an illustration I did for my Digital Painting class. I don't really have much to say about this, so enjoy!

Red Lips

I've noticed that I paint portraits when I want to just paint stuff without thinking much into it. So here's another portrait, haha. This is based off of this sketch I did in my sketchbook:

It looks a little bit different because I painted directly over it and didn't look at the original sketch. Anywho, here you go. Enjoy!

Background Painting

My most recent assignment for my digital illustration class was to paint a background for an animated movie, or just any movie, really. Since I hate painting/drawing extreme realism (except for people, kinda) ,  my obvious choice was to do paint a background with more of a stylized feel to it. Since I avoid drawing backgrounds at all costs, I had a hard time starting this one. Eventually, I got around to it. And here it is!

For the assignment, we had to do different layers for the foreground, mid ground, and background. I had four layers....in case you were wondering. So yeah, this is what I made. It could still use a little bit of work. Some areas are still a little messy and stuff, but oh well. I hope you like it. Let me know what you think. You're the best.

Oh, I forgot to tell you guys, I got engaged on the 9th of February! Crazy stuff! Well, I'm super stoked to get married to my bestest friend, so that's pretty cool. Maybe I'll do a post about how he asked me so I don't have to tell the story a million times. We'll see.

Doll Design

So, this assignment was done for my digital illustration class. Our assignment was to design a toy of some sort and draw it from 3 different angles. Since I love character design, I decided to go for that sort of approach and design a doll. It was a little tricky getting all three of the angles to look the same, but I think I did a pretty good job for my first turn-around sort of thing. Enjoy!

Hey Look, It's Me!

So, I decided to try to draw a self-portrait. I found out it's pretty difficult to pick features in yourself that are distinguishable.  I think I did a pretty decent job. What do you think?

Pinocchio Concept Art

I just realized that I posted some of the stuff for my Pinocchio concept art thing, but I didn't post all of it. So in this post, I will show you all of the things I did in my concept art class with Jake Parker. Some of them could still  use a little touching up, but I'm pretty proud of what I did this semester! Except for the couple of things I didn't post here from the class. But you don't need to know about that. Anyway, enjoy!

Textures are Cool

For my Digital Illustration class with Justin Kunz, we started off by painting some textures. When I heard the assignment, I was worried that it was going to be extremely boring and tedious. To my surprise, it was really fun and I learned a lot. These are what I came up with.

The cool thing about these is that they can be tiled seamlessly. So, basically these things can go on. And on. Forever. Ad ever. So that's cool. Enjoy!
