The Snow Queen

For this assignment, I decided to do an illustration based off of The Snow Queen.  this is a scene near the end of the story where Gerda finds Kai in the Snow Queen's ice cave. The Snow Queen has told Kai that he can only escape and receive and pair of ice-skates is he can solve the puzzle and spell out the word 'eternity'. There's a whole lot more to the story, so if you want to know more about it, you can read the summary here.

Enjoy!

Hansel and Gretel

Here's Hansel and Gretel! Figuring out the composition for this one was really tricky, but I think I got pretty close to what I was going for. I did a lot of research for the clothing/trees/house for this one, but I don't know how much it paid off, haha. I decided to have it take place in the late 1600's early 1700's in Germany, so I tried to research stuff from that time period. So there you have it!

I painted with acrylic!

Well, this is actually the second acrylic painting I've done in my life. The first I turned in already for grading, so I can't show it to you. Maybe later. We'll see. Anyway,  for this assignment, we had to paint a woodland creature in a non-realistic style. I chose to do something pretty simple so that I could just focs on the paint. Plus I think owls are really cool/ kind of really creepy. I learned a lot about acrylic! Mostly that painting takes WAY longer then you expect it to. Well, I already knew that, but I was reminded again. But good news is that after doing this painting  I kind of want to do more illustrations in acrylic! So we'll see if that actually happens. Maybe when I get more free time.

Figure Drawings

I finally got around to taking pictures of some of my figure drawings from last year. It actually shocked me how much my figure drawings improved after taking this class with Robert Barrett. All of these are about 2-3 hour poses except the 4th and the 6th. Here's to constantly improving!
